External-level assisted cooling by measurement

چکیده

A quantum resonator in a thermal-equilibrium state with high temperature has large average population and is featured significant occupation over Fock states excitation number. The could be cooled down via continuous measurements on the ground of coupled two-level system (qubit). We find, however, that measurement-induced cooling might become inefficient high-temperature regime. Beyond conventional strategy, we introduce strong driving between excited qubit an external level. It can remarkably broaden range regard to nonvanishing populated resonator. Without any precooling procedure, our strategy allows reduction populations number, giving rise nondeterministic ground-state after sequence measurements. driving-induced fast transition constrains ancillary at their upon measurement then simulates Zeno effect. Our protocol applied cool magnetic Additionally, it generalized hybrid by interpolating methods without driving, which accelerate process increase overlap final its state.

External cooling in the management of fever.

Although physical methods of cooling are the treatment of choice for hyperthermia, their value in the treatment of fever remains uncertain. Methods involving convection and evaporation are more effective than those involving conduction for the treatment of hyperthermia. These same methods, combined with antipyretic medication, are preferable to immersion as treatment for fever in young children...

Cooling-by-measurement and mechanical state tomography via pulsed optomechanics.

Observing a physical quantity without disturbing it is a key capability for the control of individual quantum systems. Such back-action-evading or quantum non-demolition measurements were first introduced in the 1970s for gravitational wave detection, and now such techniques are an indispensable tool throughout quantum science. Here we perform measurements of the position of a mechanical oscill...

Two-photon and electromagnetically-induced-transparency-assisted Doppler cooling in a three-level cascade system

Laser cooling is theoretically investigated in a cascade three-level scheme, where the excited state of a laser-driven transition is coupled by a second laser to a top, more stable level, as for alkaline-earth-metal atoms. The second laser action modifies the atomic scattering cross section and produces temperatures lower than those reached by Doppler cooling on the lower transition. When multi...

Inkjet Assisted Spray Cooling of Electronics

Increases in microprocessor power dissipation and the resulting effect on the cost and complexity of thermal management solutions has been well documented in recent years. Accompanying this increase in overall power dissipation has been a reduction in feature size due to process improvements resulting in a steady decrease in the size of the processing core where most of the power on a die is ge...

Environment-assisted precision measurement.

We describe a method to enhance the sensitivity of precision measurements that takes advantage of the environment of a quantum sensor to amplify the response of the sensor to weak external perturbations. An individual qubit is used to sense the dynamics of surrounding ancillary qubits, which are in turn affected by the external field to be measured. The resulting sensitivity enhancement is dete...
